Love Lives Here – Lerato Sibanda and Melissa Sussens
This set promises to be edgy, showcasing Lerato’s unique brand of live poetry in which she also employs singing in a capella for dramatic effect. She is joined by Melissa Sussens for the second year running and this duo promise to move and shake the audience with their passion and truths. The theme of the poems Lerato and Melissa will share can be framed as love notes or open letters – to love, self and art – written from a millenial’s perspective.
Lerato Sibanda, is a young, vibrant and multi-talented artist and journalist from South Africa’s jazz capital, Pretoria. She’s fascinated by urban cultural styles that range from music, fashion and dance and this is reflected in her feature writing and op-ed formation on mainstream and alternative media platforms. She believes every individual has the power to passionately pursue their purpose and it’s these same values that inform her cathartic and enriching music and poetry.
Melissa Sussens is a veterinarian and poet based in Cape Town. She performed with Lerato Sibanda at the Poetry in McGregor festival in 2018 and her poems have been published by Ja. Magazine, Germ Magazine and Odd Magazine and can be found online.
