The MAC Project had great pleasure this week in welcoming 7 “Adventures For Love” ladies from Johannesburg and Cape Town who came to do a classroom make-over at The Byekorf Creche in McGregor. The Mac Project team assisted in preparing the walls and clearing the room on Thursday so that when the AFL ladies arrived on Friday they could get going immediately to complete this big task in one day. Teachers, Christeline and Clarina, supervised the 44 children as they enjoyed a day of play and special treats of hot-dogs, ice-creams and gift bags provided by AFL. The project brief was to re-paint the walls in a light-blue colour; put up new curtains and rails; provide 62 removable cot-mattress covers; top-up the first aid kit (with novelty plasters in particular); and provide a new carpet or mat if possible. In addition to the previous list, AFL gave the teachers a pamper-pack each, (the contents of which were donated by a ladies’ book-club in Cape Town); food supplies for the pantry; cleaning materials; books, toys and old clothes.

As a follow-on to complete the project, future plans are:

  • a painter will be contacted to paint the bathrooms with the left-over paint
  • a cleaning team will be contracted to spring-clean the entire crèche
  • enquiries will be made regarding upgrading the security to prevent the constant theft of food items
  • repair of the gazebo over the sandpit
  • purchase of a new fridge/freezer

A huge bouquet of thanks to the “Adventures for Love” team and their sponsors; AH Marais in Robertson for sponsoring the paint and to all members of The MAC Project for their hands-on assistance!
